How to choose typography for a SaaS brand: font pairing, readability in interfaces, licensing and building a clear type scale.

What Makes Good SaaS Typography

Quick answer: good SaaS typography is readable at small sizes, has a full range of weights, works on screens, and reflects your brand personality. Most SaaS brands use one or two typefaces at most. Your product interface is mostly text, so readability matters more than decoration. Variable fonts are worth considering. They offer many weights in one file, which can improve website performance.

Clean sans-serif typefaces are popular for SaaS because they stay clear in dense interfaces. Kites Design uses Satoshi, a modern geometric sans. Test fonts with real interface content like tables, forms and dashboards, not just headlines.

Choosing and Pairing Fonts

Pick a primary typeface with several weights and good numbers for tables and dashboards. If you pair fonts, contrast them clearly, such as a characterful display face for headlines and a neutral face for body text. Check how fonts render on different operating systems and browsers.

Check language support if you plan to serve international users. Check licensing for web, app and print use. Some fonts are free, while others need paid licenses. Consider fallback fonts for situations where your brand font cannot load.

Build a Type Scale

Define a set of sizes for headings, body, captions and labels, and use them consistently. Set line height and letter spacing for each size, and store them as design tokens. Limit the number of sizes in your type scale. Fewer, well-chosen sizes create a calmer interface.

Kites Design defines typography systems as part of every brand and design system project. Document typography choices in your design system so new pages always look consistent.
