Steps 1 to 2: Plan the Experience

Quick answer: to design a mobile app UI, define your users and core tasks, map user flows, wireframe key screens, apply platform guidelines and your brand, build a component library and test on real devices. Step 1: Define users and core tasks. List the two or three things users must be able to do quickly. Think about accessibility from the start, including text size, contrast and screen reader labels.

Step 2: Map user flows. Plan every step of each task, including sign-up, permissions and error states. Consider offline and poor connection states, especially for apps used on the move.

Steps 3 to 4: Design the Screens

Step 3: Wireframe. Start with the most-used screens and design for one-handed use, with key actions in easy thumb reach. Step 4: Visual design. Apply your brand and follow platform guidelines from Apple's Human Interface Guidelines and Google's Material Design where they help users. Use familiar gestures and patterns so users do not need to learn new behaviors.

Use clear navigation, such as a bottom tab bar with four to five items, and make touch targets large enough to tap comfortably. Dark mode support is expected in many modern apps, so plan colors that work in both themes.

Steps 5 to 6: Systemize and Test

Step 5: Build components. Create reusable buttons, cards, inputs and lists with every state. Step 6: Test on real devices. Check readability, tap targets and performance on small and large screens. Hand off to developers with organized files, component names and specs for spacing and states.
